Synopsis

Cath is a Simon Snow fan.

Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan...But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Re-reading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, and dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words... And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?

Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories? And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

Personal Experience with This Book

I have to start this review saying that during my entire life – or as long as I can remember – I have been a Fangirl of something or somebody. RBD was the first music group I have ever like as much as I love now Super Junior and, Harry Potter is still my Favorite Book/movie of all times. So... That said you can see how much I can relate to this character.

The story is about Cath who is in that time in every person’s life where she has to grow up. She is going to first year of college and her sister, who has been always with her, is telling her to practically go away. Wren wants to be recognizing by herself and not in a set with her twin sister, which for me is a really good argument. They are growing and getting to know, even though they are twins, they still have differences. Plus, we have Levi, Nick and Reagan, friends with Cath.

Cath as a character is very contradictory for me. I still don’t know if I like her or not. I can relate to her in the Fangirl thing but I can’t understand why is she so scared of everything? I mean, seriously, everyone experience that feeling of butterflies in the stomach the first day at school but bot because of being scared and nervous you are going to lock yourself up in your room without talking to anyone and complain about how hard life is outside of you school and house and blab la bla…I really hated this about Cath. But, as the story progress, she grows. That’s good. She matures and starts feeling things for this guy who is always wondering around her room. Levi.

Levi is one of the cutest main characters I have ever read about. I mean seriously I want a boyfriend like that... or maybe when I was in High school I wanted my boyfriend to be like that. He is just so considerate, so special with her. And they are just the cutest couple ever!

The story as a whole is good. It is not excellent. Not perfect, but good enough to get you entertained and happy while reading it. Although I got irritated sometimes, I already said why. I liked the way things happened. I liked the relationship between the two main characters. I liked the fan fiction about Simon Snow and the small parts of Simon Snow’s books, I actually though about Harry Potter while reading them… Don’t judge me, please.

Rainbow Rowell writing style is also very good. She writes and makes you feel like you have not read that much but you actually are reading a lot which is good because you can finish the book without even realizing how long time you have been reading it.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I do not recommend it though to people who does not have this experiences of “Fangirling” something because you might find it irritating at some points.
